Artist: Gary Higgins Album: Red Hash Song: Telegraph Towers (Track 4) Year: 1973 Recorded during one forty-hour period in 1973, 'Red Hash' by Gary Higgins is one of the great 'lost' albums of all time. A lovely, sad, wistful folk album, 'Red Hash' was recorded so quickly because Higgins had recently been arrested on drug charges and was facing years in prison. Shortly after the album was self released on his own Nufusmoon label, Higgins seemed to disappear and seemingly gave up a career in music, firstly serving out his prison sentence and later falling into domestic life marrying and having a child, and 'Red Hash' fell into the abyss. It was during the mid-1990s, when 'Red Hash' began to get noticed. Partly due to the development of the internet (word spread about the album online and pirated copies began to appear on ebay) and partly down to musicians, such as Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance, who began to cite the album as a major influence. Chasny even covered one of 'Red Hash's' many standout tracks, "Thicker than a Smokey" on the quite brilliant Six Organs of Admittance album 'School of the Flower' (2005). The story took a further turn for the better when A&R man Zach Cowie received a burned copy of the album from Chasny and was so enchanted with what he heard, decided to set out and find Higgins. The search paid off and the album was remastered and released to critical acclaim by Drag City in 2005. 'Red Hash' is a gem of an album that has aged fantastically well, comparisons with Skip Spence's 'Oar' and David Crosby's 'If I Could Only Remember My Name' begin to position this record in the "classic" territory that it deserves to be in.

The Lower Wall Street Business Men's Association who deposited the box with the historical society had asked that it be unsealed in 1974, but somehow, it was forgotten. On Wednesday night, two women accused Donald Trump of inappropriate touching in the New York Times. One of the women, Jessica Leeds, appeared on camera to recount how Mr Trump grabbed her breasts and tried to put his hand up her skirt in the first class cabin on a flight to New York in or around 1980. The second woman, Rachel Crooks, described how Mr Trump "kissed me directly on the mouth" in 2005 outside the elevator in Trump Tower in Manhattan, where she was a receptionist at a real estate firm. 2. Mar-A-Lago claim The Palm Beach Post published an exclusive story on its website in which Mindy McGillivray, now 36, alleged that Mr Trump grabbed her at his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida in early 2003. "It was pretty close to the centre of my butt," she said of the incident that happened as she was working as a photographer's assistant at an event. "I was startled. I jumped." 3. Miss Washington Cassandra Searles Cassandra Searles CREDIT: WIREIMAGE Cassandra Searles, Miss Washington 2013, called Trump a "misogynist" in a Facebook post, and said in a comment that he had "continually grabbed my ass and invited me to his hotel room", Yahoo News reported. 4. Miss Utah Temple Taggart, a former Miss Utah, told the New York Times in May how Trump kissed her on the lips when he introduced himself to the 21-year-old contestant at the 1997 Miss USA pageant. She said he kissed her again at a later meeting at Trump Tower. 5. Brooklyn Bridge opens After 14 years and 27 deaths, the Brooklyn Bridge finally opens over the East River, connecting the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York city for the first time in history. Designed by John A. Roebling, the Brooklyn Bridge is the largest suspension bridge ever built till date Now more than 125 years old, this iconic feature of the New York City skyline still carries roughly 150,000 vehicles and pedestrians every day. Samuel Morse taps out world's first telegraph message Samuel Morse launched the country’s first telegraph service by wire from Washington to Baltimore. Morse’s telegram "What hath God wrought?" quoted a line from the book of Numbers in the Bible chapter 23 verse 23. He also invented Morse Code, an alphabet of electronic dots and dashes. Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus passes away He formed a model of the universe placing the sun instead of the earth at the centre of the universe. He is one of the first scientists to use mathematical observations to collect information. Along with being an astronaut, he was also a mathematician, physician, classic scholar, translator, governor, diplomat and economist.

But today, were not going to focus on the negative aspect of that event. Rather we're going to show you how fascinating New York city can be. It's not hard to find fascinating facts about New York city. Think about it. New York city currently houses 8.4 million people distributed over a land area of 305 square miles. That's insane! The city has five boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Some even say that these boroughs have enough personality and attractions to be their own cities! And then there's New York's history, which is full of defining moments, some tragic like Sept. 11, others revolutionary like the creation of New York's Subway. And then there's the nick name: "The Big Apple", an mystery that has captured the imagination of most. Where does this nickname come from? Well you're about to find out. That's right, if you stick with us until #1 we'll explain why it's called the Big Apple even though everybody you ever asked told you it was a mystery. So from cool quirky facts like New York's obsession with coffee, to the origins of New York's nickname we bring you 25 fascinating facts about New York City and why it is called the Big Apple. Follow us on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/list25 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/list25 Website: http://list25.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/list25/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/list25/ Be sure to check out the physical list here:http://list25.com/25-fascinating-facts-about-new-york-city/ Check out these cool facts about New York City: 15,152 forms of life have been found in the New York Subway system (these include insects and bacteria) Except for emergencies, honking your car horn is actually illegal in New York City. And yes, we know, everybody does it anyway. In 1789 it became the first capital of the United States. This only lasted for one year though. In 2018 NYC will open the world's first underground park There is a skyscraper with no windows Manhattan was purchased from the native people in 1626 for the modern equivalent of US $1000 New Yorkers bite 10 times more people per year than sharks do New York sets train tracks on fire to keep them free of ice in the winter More people in New York die of suicide than murder It can cost nearly $300,000 to operate a hot dog stand around Central Park Manhattan comes from a Lenape word meaning "island of many hills" (mostly flattened by now to provide room for urban development) New York City is the city with the largest Polish population after Warsaw Roughly half of the population speaks a language other than English at home New York City doesn't have any Walmarts More Chinese people live in New York City than any other city outside of Asia. And more Jewish people live there than any other city outside of Israel. 1 in every 38 Americans live in NYC New Yorkers drink 7 times more coffee than people in the rest of America 25% of the world's gold bullion is stored in vaults under Wall Street (the federal reserve bank) 1 out of every 21 New Yorkers is a millionaire Invisible, harmless shrimp called copepods live in New York City's water supply The city gets about 15 times more snow than the South Pole every year (this shouldn't be too surprising though because Antarctica is a desert and therefore receives very little precipitation) Einstein's eyes are locked in a safe deposit box somewhere in the city The Empire State Building has its own zip code With over 800 languages spoken by a significant portion of the population, New York City is the most linguistically diverse city in the world. Although for a long time many people considered the origin of the term Big Apple to be a mystery, researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology managed to determine the probably etymology. "Apple" referred to many of the big horse racing courses around NYC (possibly due to the fact that horses liked apples). Smaller tracks were often called "bull rings". The term was popularized for the first time by John J. Fitz Gerald in The New York Morning Telegraph when he mentioned going to the "Big Apple" as in going to the "big time"

See more from the AT&T Archives at http://techchannel.att.com/archives Introduction by George Kupczak of the AT&T Archives and History Center The morning of February 27, 1975 brought a fire in the telephone building at 204 Second Avenue, at East 13th Street. The building housed the Main Distribution Frame that served customers in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn--the mainframe was destroyed, disconnecting tens of thousands of customers, and switching equipment was melted or damaged by smoke. The fire took out approximately 170,000 lines. The Bell System immediately went into company-wide action, restoring service within about 2 weeks, and brought rolling phone trucks to lower manhattan to provide at least some service to residents. The filmmakers were quick on the scene and started rolling cameras to document not just the recovery of the system by the efforts of firemen, Bell executives, and Bell workers, but put lenses on affected customers as well, to tell the full picture in this cinéma-vérité documentary. The 2nd Ave. disaster was the largest loss of telephone service from fire in United States history until World Trade Center was attacked on September 11, 2001. On that occasion, service was disrupted to approx. 300,000 circuits and 10 cellphone towers. A Gordon/Glyn Production Albert Maysles provided footage Footage courtesy of AT&T Archives and History Center, Warren, NJ
